Well I disagree.
For starters, breaking his election promise not to cut public services jobs had a multiplier effect that caused retailers to cut jobs. It caused the property market to be subdued which caused the Govt's duties revenues to fall off a cliff which in turn doubled the State's budget deficit.
This is what Rudd has been explaining. Despite fiscal austerity not working anywhere in the world the Premier thought he knew better. His policy levers has largely caused the budget deficit doubling and unemployment hitting ten year highs.
Not only that. Newman has passed on a huge increase in taxes, fees and fines in the recent budget that does what to consumer sentiment? Makes them want to go out and spend?
Then there's the 22% power increase...which I admit the blame is equally shared between state and Feds.
I live in the South Pacific so warm weather is not a KPI that will bring me back to Qld....
