There were Australian citizens living on Christmas island before this began what would happen to them. Personally I still favour a UHHCR camp in the great Sandy desert a place with no roads to it all contact by government flights only and all residents applications treated at the same level as as those in other camps around the world
I note that their have been reports of the government wanting to renegotiate the UNHCR treaty that could take decades a real good job for sir humphrey appelby. In the meantime this disaster continues. Unilateral changing a setting up our own standards would be more effective
