They absolutely can be open to other offers, but the problem now is time. Under the current Seychelles agreement, they have to drill before the end of Jan 2014.

The Seychelles Gov agreed to amended work schedules for the now collapsed deal (we don't know the details, but Noske suggested $25m of 3d which implies probably at least a 6 month extension) but that has, presumably, evaporated along with the deal. Also, bear in mind that this farmin has been under negotiation for about 9 months, so the process takes a while.

Our best hope to get anything from the flagship project, as I see it, is that the 3rd party seismic deal was quite advanced and that that can be resurrected satisfactorily. At the same time they'd have to convince the Gov to extend terms yet again on the basis that it's bloody hard to get anyone interested in a frontier region, and that they're best to stick with a partner they know.
