Anecdotaly the woman I know from 21 to 50 years of age seem to have better saving ability than men despite lower income, also more of them seem to be home owners than men, but tend to get guy friends to do a lot of the home maintenance for them.
Many men seem to be more transient in their lifestyle due to work requirements so a home would tie them down too much was the case for me to between the age of 30 and 42 (as an industrial mechanic) but now settled down.
