considered as a group, politicians are the least scientifically trained apes on the plant. They are steeped in technological ignorance, they merely parrot what others tell them if it suits their personal political agenda.

shale gas might be developed in the UK but it's going to be a slow process and the population isn't going to like its effects when/if major development gets underway. Not say that DTE might not make a few bucks for holders along the way but it's the UK who'll eventually pay the price.

what these myopic self serving politicians don't say is that 40 years worth of gas is a very brief stop-gap energy solution in the overall scheme of things - where are the really long term sustainable energy sources? it certainly isn't shale gas.
