The president of a country that has never had imperial ambitions, that has put the lives of its young men and women on the line time and time again to free other peoples. "
In WW2 the US pursued a neutralist line, was determined to stay out of the war despite europe going down, despite the ethnic cleansing of jews and seeing UK under attack and all the while doing business with the Allies and the Nazis and did not engage until after being attacked.
The US Ambassador to Germany William E. Dodd led the debate within the US to boycott the Berlin Olympics, without success. He later was reported to have said: "A clique of U.S. industrialists is hell-bent to bring a fascist state to supplant our democratic government and is working closely with the fascist regime in Germany and Italy. I have had plenty of opportunity in my post in Berlin to witness how close some of our American ruling families are to the Nazi regime. They extended aid to help Fascism occupy the seat of power, and they are helping to keep it there."
So this line of global boy scout wears a little thin.
