"Trade exposed industries (read mining) get compensation to help them move to lower carbon emissions."
How much did BHP or RIO get in carbon compensation?
How much additional cost will they incur when diesel is carbon taxed under an ETS
"And the mining tax apparently doesn't raise any money."
It doesn't need to in order to scare away investment.
Can you not see how absolutely ridiculous it is for a small country like Australia that is reliant on large amounts of energy for its primary and aspiring secondary industries to be taxed when their direct competitors are not?
