sjjbl5, so how would you clothe your children? They will be walking naked and unshod, as will you.

I used to think the same way, particularly in regard to the cold war eastern european nations. We should never have bought East German, or Polish, or Ukrainian stuff. That, however, just maintains their poverty while encouraging trade with them gives them something to aspire to so that, when the opportunity arises, they grasp it eagerly.

Similarly with child labour now in Asia. You don't think the parents are unaware of what their kids are missing out on, do you? It is the first step to breaking the poverty cycle. Hopefully in 80 years time these kids will be telling their great grandchildren about how tough it was for them, and how they just don't appreciate how lucky they are to have an education, electricity, a roof over their heads and running water!

It's up to you. You can try to cut off the source of income to the children and set the process back a generation or two, causing hunger and hardship along the way, or support poor communities trying to break out of the poverty cycle en route to a better life for future generations.
