So BHP are keeping Jansen as a live long term option with a major 2.8 billion spend on further enabling infrastructure there. Not being developed immediately, so no possible influence on the potash price in the next couple of years.
If I were BHP, I would now turn my attention to hoovering up other potential sources of future competing supply...for instance, by cornering the Paradox Basin explorers. They would then be able to develop of the Paradox to occur at their own pace (if the US government let them).
In all, the Jansen decision could be good for us. These big players are going to have to think hard about not crashing the potash price in the medium future....
Just a thought.
