The Yanks have around 70 nuclear attack subs, but no ultra-quiet, diesel subs. They like to exercise with our subs, because of the challenge defeating a well crewed diesel sub presents. Australia probably offers more to regional security by having a small fleet of ultra Quiet diesel subs than by having a few nucs, which are already well represented.
