On the positive side, the world needs electricity and this is generated by fuel of different sources.

1. Coal... (Cheap but dirty) and governments seem to be trying to steer away from it.

2. Gas... Cleaner and seems to be one of the fuels of choice. Some US power stations being converted as is better environmentaly.

3. Hydro... Very Clean but expensive

4. Solar... Very Clean but dependant on the sun so not good for base load.

5. Wind ... Very clean but dependant on the wind blowing.

6. Nuclear... Clean and relatively cheap. Some dangers ie
Fukishima

Many power stations in China under construction or in the design phase are nuclear powered. They need fuel.


I see coal fired power stations as damaging the atmosphere so slowly that it is not noticed as much as say a Fukishima event that was very sudden but the effect is worse. Fukishima should never have been built in the position they placed it. Nearly all nuclear power stations operate incident free.

A long term stock that is probably near the bottom of its cycle.
