What georisk refers to is a strategy employed by shareholder activist Stephen Mayne.
He hit the jackpot post GFC when a whole lot of companies started raising money. I think he made over a quarter million dollars the last time I checked in on his progress.
Bascially he held very very small holdings in a crapload of companies. For many companies he also seemed to hold multiple tiny holdings through his wife's name/multiple accounts etc.
Then came the time when they wanted to raise cash at a discount with a SPP component - he would subscribe for the maximum amount or even more if possible - then simply resell these back onto the market soon after it was issued.
All in all, he netted a lot of money to show how shareholders often get ripped off.
I just had a look on his website and you can see he's made almost $300,000 in capital raising plays since 2009.
