Maiden African Shipment Expected To Leave Port By Year’s End For Australian Base Metals Producer

The maiden shipment of zinc concentrate from the West African flagship project of Australian base metals producer, Blackthorn Resources, is due to leave port by the end of the year.

Speaking in Perth today on the second day the three day 2013 Paydirt Africa Down Under conference, Blackthorn Resources Chief Operating Officer, Mr Tony De Santis, said 12,000 tonnes of concentrate from its Perkoa Project - a joint venture with Glencore - in Burkina Faso had already been stockpiled at the port of Abidjan, in the Cote d'Ivoire, awaiting shipment to market.

In total, about 25,000 tonnes of the base metal had now been produced at the mine.

'Our inaugural shipment of zinc concentrate to market is obviously a significant milestone for us,' Blackthorn Resources Chief Operating Officer, Mr Tony De Santis, said today.

'Our JV partner, Glencore, is handling all the logistics with the sale of the concentrate, with the JV receiving first payment for its concentrate at shipment, which we expect to occur by the end of 2013,' he said.

'Looking forward, we have expanded the Perkoa Project to now include silver, lead and zinc.

'We have also increased the capacity of the processing plant - which was successfully commissioned earlier this year - to about one million tonnes per annum.
