I attach the 16th issue of IMF's biannual newsletter, the Shareholder. In this issue, we look at the new regulations on conflicts of interest, which came into force in July, and ASIC's guidance on how any conflicts should be managed by funders. IMF will wholeheartedly comply with the new regulations and has adopted an updated conflicts management policy. We will also lobby the new government to fully regulate the litigation funding sector in Australia for the protection of existing and prospective claimants.

This issue also contains articles on some recent decisions in various class actions. These cases have highlighted the court's role when considering whether or not to approve a settlement which has been proposed. In particular, the court will seek to ensure that the settlement operates fairly and reasonably in all respects as between group members. This is an important feature of the Australian class action framework and the decisions featured show that it is operating robustly
