Regarding a kick from CO2, it all has to do with density not volatility. I am currently looking at a chart on the side of my filing cabinet which has the densities of CO2, CH4 and N2 with depth. At a pressure of 20 MPa (which is about 2 km depth under a hydrostatic gradient) CO2 has a density of about 0.8 g/cc, while CH4 (methane) has a density of about 0.14 g/cc. Big difference! (The greater the difference in density relative to water which is 1 g/cc, the greater the kick. This says to me that the kick that you will get from pure CO2 will be much smaller. However, I believe the risk is that there is 25% CO2 in the gas, in which case you will get a good kick...but the field might well be uneconomical due to separation costs of CO2.
