    Yes we must heed what Rio is doing, as they are very savvy and prudent investors.

    Rio acquired Alcan in mid 2007 for $US38 billion and since then have written off $US29 billion off its value.

    At the time Rio outbided Alcoa by an extraordinary $US10 billion.
