Most of us over the age of eight are aware that a company has to make money to survive. So we expect, and allow for, an element of self-interest in recommendations from investment banks, and from brokers.
But that does not mean that those same recommendations are worthless. Those same investment banks and brokers have a professional reputation to protect - and that reputation is among their largest assets. Are they really going to trash it, for no good reason?
The material coming from the professional analysts employed by those institutions is frequently the only source of information which many small investors receive. Yes, it should be weighed, and evaluated. But that is not the same as saying that it should be ignored!
How can it be wrong to take all the available information, from any source, assess it, and only then arrive at a decision?
Cheers, Prime1
