Not lifting the debt ceiling would certainly sort the men from the boys - as they say all ships float with rising tides
IMO the US will never default in technical terms, they will simply rebalance some payments and likely write the Fed and others some IOU's etc
If you were China and Russia holding the debt though, you'd be pretty anxious this week
