or you can incorporate a shear pin that will shear at a torque load lower than the design capacity of the shaft, when the pin shears you simply replace the pin, every push lawn mower has a shear pin on the flywheel so if you hit a stump it shears and does not twist the crankshaft, same with plough legs if you hit a stump :)
