I know we can become more efficient with our use of energy & wind, solar, tidal etc etc have a small place but realistically there are only two options for base load power generation (assuming coal is replaced by gas over time) & they are gas & nuclear. Transport has to be liquid or gas hydrocarbons or electricity (refer to base load generation above.
The other option is for the world to live a VERY different life style, great in theory but in practice ? let big AL G lead the way & bicycle to all his appointments, sell all his hydrocarbon producing toys (boats etc, mow his undoubtedly very large lawn with a push mower & cook his meals over dried horse shit.
