I reckon they assumed a uniform body of ore and uniform processing requirements and designed the plant to cope with just that. Probably found something unexpected in the ore body, with 2.5 B Tonnes of ore you can expect to find variations....just looks like they have found them very quickly. Not enough drilling and classification!!! I have seen hundreds of filtration systems fail, rarely have I seen one that has failed in what it was designed to do though, generally they fail because something is being thrown at them that it was not designed to process. I have lost count of the number of times I have seen systems (filtration or otherwise) fail because they're outside of design parameters.
I previously had thought poor design but this long a fix is something more in my opinion....hopefully the implemented fix arrives soon and there are no more surprises.
Once they get to steady state hopefully the price of IO is still respectable and we can get a decent recovery to pay back these additional lines of credit before being diluted again.
