    Hello All,

An interesting thread and something which I thought I might open up if and when an opportunity comes along. One day, some 3 months ago, on hotcopper there was an ad for Portelli (I hope I spelled the name right) racing for syndications, obviously I would like to support hc with whichever means I can, so i clicked that banner and got hooked up. Looked further and further, with various stables, racing victoria pages and so on. Made some initial enquiries with 3 stables and budgeted 4-5k for my initial purchase and can go for 5% share (as that is the amount i can comfortably afford). Among the responses I have received, I picked to go with a 2 yo with Mr. David hayes. Got the bills for the last 2 months and the horse is currently spelling. My objective is to get involved and experience a bit, with whatever way I can. This is my first venture in this field. I certainly did not get into owning a share to make money (for anyone who can do a bit of maths, in order to get back my initial outlay, this horse has to win prizemoney worth 140k, then another 140k over next 3-4 years to pay for the training expenditures and so on...that is if it makes to the race track). As I have mentioned previously, I like this field and have a passion for it. Will look to get involved more in the next 5 years. I have to take it gradually because of my previous commitments and hopefullly someday in the next 10 years, would like to get my hands on 2 horses to train. Recently applied to a tafe to learn a bit about stablehand and trackriding. Thats my starting point. So waiting for the results with my fingers crossed.

Will let you guys know if and when my horse gets to the track.

Off to do the forms for tomorrow. But I have already put some considerable amount of money (to me) on Red Element running in tomorrow. I just heard the horse name, when I was driving around and I put the money on it on my next opportunity. Don't know whether thats good or not. haven't even looked at the fields yet.

    Cheers
    PMT

PS; There are 2 people I would say have played a critical role in developing my fascination into racing. The first person is an old bloke, who is currently in a respite care, a friend of a friend's family friend. Sometimes I think he likes me. He is from UK and had all the traits of a gentleman. I think it was just meant to be that I have to run into him. I learnt heaps from him and unfortunately the Alzhiemers got to him, before I could get to know him well. I was told that he was a good (astute) punter and had 2 horses (100%) with a trainer. but they didn't turn up good to him. He experienced wwII and don't want to write too much here as I can write a book on his life (I would like to be selfish and would like to keep it to myself). The second person is Mr. Tommy Woodcock. As they say a picture is worth 1000 words...when I get old, I want to be like this

His biography was the spark for me to get involved.
