Hi DS, where did you get the info they were going after cataracts. As far as I know it is drusen build up at the back of the eye they are talking about. That is called dry macular degeneration. Drusen is like plaque build. It causes wavy vision and excess growth of blood vessels. If the vessels rupture it turns into wet macular degeneration. That causes the blind spots. A drug used to stop blood vessels growing in cancers is also used for wet MD. Avastin(genentech). There are other drugs also for WMD. There is nothing for dry macular degeneration. Zinc is thought to be involved in the drusen buildup. It is a huge unmet need.
