Hi Mike_au1,We seriously considered investing in them in 2001/2002.
The problems We saw then, was House prices were rather flat at that Time and You needed to HOLD them on a contract for Ten to Fifteen Years(no flexability) and that the Yield on them after management Fees etc was only approx 4.5 THEN, and we were better off with Bank Term Deposits THEN 6% or so, and investing the remaining 10% of our S.M.S.F. funds in Santos STO Shares.
At present defence housing would look attractive to many people given the present Term Deposit Interest Rates and I have noticed ,Westpac running information evenings about defence housing.
A major problem lurks in the Australian Taxation System and it comes from so many Taxpayers reducing their Income Taxation with Negative Gearing systems, and when the 'chickens come home to roost' on that, changes to Negative Gearing could well take place.
No responsibility taken for any losses in association with this posting.

moly
