If a person has not an interest in God, how would that make his life meaningless ? Self realisation of mental awareness is satisfaction in life as is material gains. Organisations of priorities is a fundamental to any endeavour.
When we talk about a God or Gods.,what God are we really talking about ? Are we being objective about the existence of a superior entity ?
A hypothesis; with so many religions claiming and asserting that their God is the one and only, I as a new comer; why would I choose one from another without offending the other as all claim that their God is the one true God and most become offended and place conditions. ( all very confusing ) So iif we are to establish, without taking into account the confusing religions, the idea of a God/s, we would have to reason ourselves because before we consider what we may think as to being correct we would have to establish the veracity of what we consider to be absolute.
You see a dogmatic approach is not valuable for many reasons and a doubt on the very existence is reasonable as it allows you to progress and figure it out without being sucked in by the confusing religions.

Don't know how you can establish the above (from an atheist view) apart from presuming that an atheist may or not think so all atheists reason like that or is it only some?

So, you affirm the above is ok? If? That's only a hypothesis Because the study of the mind is more complicated and simple at the same time.
Atheists apply their reasons for being such as so do their religious counterparts as so do philosophers. I am more inclined towards a understanding of self rather than believing in a very confusing religion that constantly reminds me of how naughty and bad I am as opposed to teaching me the benefit of achieving self realisation.
