The dusty road is littered with the corpses of dead mining companies, way too many to list.
Mining is a high risk capital intensive industry that is weighed down by bureaucratic bullshit and the average mine takes about 8 years to develop. The end result might be a boomer or it could be a bitch, that's the nature of the business.
If people put money in the hands of other people who are basically venture hunters then they should be prepared to accept that these people are not necessarily the sharpest knives in the business world, and their money could, and in a lot of instances is, in jeopardy.
However, people aren't being held to ransom with their shares. If they think the worst about this company and pull faces and say nasty things about the management, then SELL. If they don't sell and the share price continues to drop or the company goes bust, then no-one else is to blame.
