Occuping large areas of uninhabited Iraq opens up the US troops to chemical attack;this was the strategy in WW1 with mustard gas etc.Even a victory can lead to a defeat if large numbers of troops are killed in the field before and after a 'victory'.The US had large numbers of 'victories' in Vietnam but were eventually worn down by guerrila warfare.I'm sure all parties are just as concerned about post Saddam as any imminent war actions.Who cares if it takes 3 months or 3 years to find a solution as long as it is workable and long lasting and doesn't create a long guerilla war around the globe.Perhaps the successfull timetable is not in time with the US presidential 4 year timetable.
