Powering the City : Fuel Cells for large and small distributed generation
Nov 28, 2013 - Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation, High School Yards, Edinburgh, EH1 1LT
Our next SHFCA member meeting will be on the afternoon of Thursday 28th November. This is on the topic of stationary power, and is being held at the newly refurbished Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation building in central Edinburgh (see http://www.edinburghcentre.org/our-new-building.html for details). This venue is about 10 minutes walk from Waverley Station, at High School Yards, Edinburgh EH1 1LT.
We are delighted to announce a strong line-up of speakers for this event, including presentations from companies based in Germany, Denmark, and Finland. This will offer you a wider perspective on the uptake of energy efficient fuel cells throughout Europe.
This ‘Powering the City’ meeting is about the use of fuel cells in stationary power applications, both at large and small scale, updated from the practical deployment of these systems and the resulting benefits.
The use of fuel cells for large scale stationary heat & power applications is seeing an increasing level of uptake, with several recent projects at prestige developments in Central London such as Quadrant 3 on Regent Street and the iconic ‘Walkie-Talkie’ building at 20 Fenchurch Street. The use of large scale fuel cell CHP offer significant reductions in the overall carbon footprint of a building, as well as reductions in operating costs. Similar benefits are also being reported for deployments of small scale fuel cells, with the added incentives of feed-in tariff support for the 1.5kW BlueGen, the UK’s first MCS approved fuel cell system from Ceramic Fuel Cells.
The agenda for the meeting is :
13:00 – 13:30 Registration & Networking
13:30 – 15:00 Large Scale Distributed Power & CHP
• Klaus Ullrich of Fuel Cell Energy Solutions, international perspective on deployment of Megawatt scale fuel cell power
• Bill Ireland, MD of Logan Energy, update on deployment of large scale FC-CHP systems in London
• Erkko Fontell, CEO of Convion, on commercializing 50–300kW SOFC for distributed power generation
• Bob Kelly of AFC Energy, update on the deployment of large scale alkaline fuel cells
Panel Q&A Session
15:00 – 15:30 Coffee & Networking
15:30 – 17:00 Small Scale Distributed Power & micro-CHP
• Scott Dwyer of Delta Energy & Environment, on market trends for stationary fuel cells
• Theiss Stenstørm, CEO of IRD Fuel Cells, on remote power and micro-CHP solutions
• Tom Chicken of Fuel Cell Systems, on real examples of remote low power fuel cell applications
