"Northern Star chairman Chris Rowe says the cashed-up gold miner is taking a disciplined approach to acquisitions to strike the right balance between risk and return.

Speaking to shareholders at the company's annual general meeting, Mr Rowe said it was no secret that the company had been on the look-out for suitable acquisitions for some time.

"We are in an ideal position to make an acquisition thanks to the combination of our strong balance sheet, ongoing cashflow and excellent management," he said.

"Our timing also appears to be fortuitous. There is no shortage of gold assets in our backyard which we could acquire via one means or another.
