I agree with you hence my bracketed comment after stating what JW said. "Interestingly JW remarked that the Chinese see shale gas as laughing gas. Give it 2 years and it's gone, so they are hesitant in relying on it. (The jury is out as to exactly what that means.)"
There's clearly a huge future for unconventional gas. But the way I see it anybody who's reliant on gas imports will use it as a supplement to conventional supplies. I'm assuming that's what JW meant.

China is sitting on the planets largest unconventional gas plays and yet it's busily investing in long term conventional plays elsewhere.

Re Bayan, Cop won't build any more infrastructure in Timorise territory, so if a pipeline is the decided option then it will tap into existing. ( JW )
