They have pencilled in 3 possible locations at Glau (field is called McCool Ranch).
These sites r all centred around Texaco's corehole drilled back in 1969. That one was a shallow hole with a TD of 2290' & had shows (typical yellow cut fluorescence) which is a good sign.
More action happening 600-700m east of Glau, in the paddock where the Sinclair wells r located. Operator there is pursuing their share of black gold. Please note, this is heavy oil country.
The 'Sinclair' oil API gravity is 12 degree, hence the need for steam injection first & then once they set up the 'nodding donkey' aka beam pump unit, the recovery is predominantly water cut oil. Simply put, a lot of flushing is done in the reservoir to breakup & flow the 12deg API crude which makes this basically backyard oil country with so many beam pumps in most paddocks.
As for the delay on the grav/magnetics, the basement was fairly shallow at Glau corehole at just 2290 ft & at the Sinclair wells 600m east it comes in apprx at 2100-2300ft.
A new survey would be the way fwd, unless the USGS or Goldak had some old data. What this does is, narrows down the target area on their lease, ie, gravity low (depressions) area where sediments r mostly likely 2b deposited (instead of the granite which stands out on the magnetic survey). Couple that alongwith their recent seismic, they can plan a well accordingly.
Anyway the historic well reports & logs make an interesting reading, on the Calif dept website.
Meanwhile, drop these coords in google earth for a birds eyeview of NEN's project area.
