"......Now the real issue is, that we have many below average intelligence teachers just entering the system (good pay, great holidays). We will need to wait for these teachers to retire. Its also known that these are the teachers that enter the PUBLIC schools, as its far easier to secure a position there.

We seem to unable to tell students they have failed. I once (recently) heard some academic claiming teachers should no longer mark in red pen, as its not good for the children's self esteem. This in no way resembles real life........."

Just two paragraphs from the excellent post from LJSilver.
Thanks for so much reality and common sense.

I've been part of a mentoring program in public schools, primary and secondary, for about ten years. The area has a very poor sociodemographic. Teachers spend large amounts of time trying to cope with feral behaviour, and are poorly equipped in terms of their own education and experience.

The whole notion, so promulgated in schools for far too many years now, that every child is a special little snowflake, no faults, all positive even in the most woeful behaviour is doing our children a huge disservice.

Failure is part of life. The sooner we allow kids to understand that and deal with it, the better.
