Dear 9940,
Alot this Co2 talk is hocus pocus spouted by either the mischievous or devious. The articles that have been posted on the Song Hong Basin are clear. Of course, there may be exceptional zones of Co2 but as a general rule the Co2 camp doesn't have much academic or practical learning to attach itself too in asserting doom and gloom.
From what I have gleaned from what I have read, the fact of the matter is that the higher you are in the layers of the earth the less likelihood of Co2. This is because the Co2 in the Song Hong Basin has a largely inorganic origin deep in the layers of the earth. As such the good gas gets pushed to the surface by the bad Co2 gas from below.
Further, in regards to the Song Hong Basin from what the experts write the temperature of the Basin rises about 47C/km. The Co2 gas is formed in approximately 200C plus conditions. Again, the higher you are the less likelihood of Co2 because of the cooler conditions. Also the traps of the Song Hong Basin have been opened and closed in very rapid time. This means Co2 contamination is less likely.
Now I am not saying there won't be Co2 found but I am saying that all the doomsayers ought to do better to rebut the articles' contents and stop simply relying on the tired and worn mantra of 'Co2' and 'possibility'. How about some empirical data or expert evidence similar to that contained in the literature or otherwise being quiet on the topic given nothing further can sensibly be added?!
