The British have a lot to answer for with their nuclear tests in the Southern Hemisphere. The Fijians were similarly treated from memory.
There were probably effects to much of the nation's people also, but we will never really know, however what we do know is that the area where the testing was done was left as a no man's land until the recent clean-up was done to allow mining exploration. Don't know how much the Brits contributed to the reclamation, but seem to remember a lot of difficulty by our government getting them to do so.
