    The rising cost has simply been a function of the rising price.

    The higher price made it feasible to operate lower grade operations- which obviously have higher costs. But at the higher prices they were still profitable. As the price has dropped, these operations have become less feasible.

    Rising costs due to wages, supplies, etc may be a contributing factor, but I believe, the mining of lower grade deposits is the main reason.
