Excellent news for our polish coal exploration licence.

Looks like UCG derived syngas being produced by Linc Energy into Poland is possible over the short to medium term.

    Linc Energy December Update
Successful First Phase of Exploration in Poland is Completed

Linc Energy was pleased to announce the successful completion of its Phase 1 exploration commitment in the 100% owned Polanka Wielkie Drogi (PWD) coal concession in the Upper Silesian Basin, Poland.

The positive results of this drilling campaign will now allow Linc Energy to accelerate the next Phase of our commercialisation programme in Poland; providing the foundation for the wider deployment of our Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) technology across Europe.

The aim of the first phase of exploration was to confirm the presence, and thickness, of the target coal seam and its suitability for UCG.

Four boreholes were drilled and completed during 2012-13 with drilling results very encouraging. The target seam was intercepted in all 4 boreholes and was of greater thickness than expected, ranging from 5.5m to 9m, at depths of greater than 525m. A further three prospective coal seams of interest were also intercepted with thicknesses of up to 5m.

The sub-bituminous coal is of ideal quality for Linc Energy’s UCG technology with a gross calorific value of between 19 and 23 MJ/kg.

Commenting on the drilling results, Linc Energy’s President of Clean Energy, Adam Bond, said “for the past two years, commercialisation of UCG into Poland has been the priority for Linc Energy’s technology deployment into Europe.

With the identification of several target coal seams considered suitable for UCG, we now have the confidence to accelerate our commercialisation activities that could see over 1 billion cubic metres per annum of UCG derived syngas being produced into Poland over the short to medium term. This is not only a game changer for Poland’s economy, but also places Poland at the forefront of UCG deployment across central Europe.”

“We remain in constant dialogue with the Polish Government and regulators with regards the short term roll out of Linc Energy’s UCG technology into Poland and acknowledge the support afforded Linc Energy in its exploration endeavours to date” said Mr Bond.

We have held numerous discussions in Poland with several senior Government Ministers and officials including the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Janusz Piechocinski.

Poland’s increasing demand for new sources of natural gas and increasing reliance on foreign gas imports means the deployment of UCG can deliver on a number of economic and social benefits for Poland at a time when the country is seeking new and innovative ways of extracting clean energy from its vast coal resources. -
