"Not that Mr Palmer's move into politics would be motivated by anything other than altruism and the national interest."

LOL, up until quite recently all WA ports had a miner on their boards(presumably to represent miners interests).

The WA government is considering selling one of its ports.

WA explores sale of Utah Point port

THE West Australian government is examining the privatisation of a key iron ore port -- the Utah Point bulk export facility at Port Hedland -- under its plan to slash debt and regain the state's AAA credit rating.

WA Treasurer Troy Buswell revealed yesterday that Utah Point -- which is used by mining companies, including Atlas Iron and Consolidated Minerals -- was on the list of assets that the government was planning to put up for sale.

I note the Utah Point Facility doubled its throughput year on year.

Just whose interest is buswell protecting?

The WA taxpayer or the miners?

Of course buswell is already protecting the interests of buckerage's.

Mr Buswell confirmed yesterday that the government also planned to sell the Kwinana Bulk Terminal, south of Perth.

The Barnett government previously has said it will try to sell the Kwinana Bulk Terminal to construction magnate Len Buckeridge as part of a settlement of his $1 billion lawsuit against the state.

Mr Buckeridge has sued the government for costs and lost profits flowing from a port deal he struck with the Court government in 2000. If a deal is not struck with Mr Buckeridge, the facility will be sold through a competitive tender.

buckerage will have first dabs on the Kwinana bulk Terminal,so how does the WA taxpayer know he's/she's getting top money for the KBT?

If the deal is done, it will be by private bargaining, not an open tender.

This method alone is not in the WA taxpayers interests.
