BHP are on record as stating that the Canning Basin is the best onshore non conventional oil address in Australia. As well as having a compelling geology, it has established road and port access, an existing (albeit small) oil service industry and some level of established infrastructure. Could it be that they have been waiting for the NTT decision and grant of Title to OBL? FMG saw the opportunity but then got cold feet allowing the ever opportunistic Geoff Albers to arrive cheque book in hand and land what may be an extraordinary deal. Not only has he built a substantial holding in OBL, OXX will have a direct 25% interest in the Derby Block acquired for what may quickly look like loose change. It would have to be a great deal to tempt GA onshore, he is normally strictly a offshore O&G guy. Interestingly, BURU are also on the scene, I suspect that they can also see the opportunity at Derby. The 2013 AGM preso only deals in the prospective resources down to 4000m due to limits with rigs in Aus atm. The P10 figures are inc of down to 5000m, quite astonishing. Looking forward to a hot hot time in the Canning next year, (not before time though)
