I'll side with G6 and CG ... with caveats.

We have both extremes in both sets of grandparents, now all in their mid to late 80's.

The inlaws have been generous to a fault for the 30-35 years I have known them ... they have worked hard all their lives and they both get great joy out of generous Christmas and birthday presies for all their children, grandchildren and now great grandchildren ... often a chunky cheque ... they ooze goodwill when they give and it feels appropriate and it is never a competition.

My parents retired early and have been "comfortable" but never wealthy ... they have always been modest with presents ... as it has always been within their families ... it fits the cirumstances and I know my mid to late 20's children appreciate both circumstances and have no problems.

As for being showered with gifts, I would have some concerns about "keeping things real" and giving for all the right reasons.

    Cheers
    Dex
