Hi Denmor,
My memory of Myola was that it had more sand flies than anywhere else on earth, is that still the same?
Next time you are down there see if you can find someone that lived there in the early seventies, they will tell you what it was like, especially the residents of Quay Road.
My house was on the waterfront and was one of those in danger. After the weather calmed down we built stairs to get down the three metre embankment so that we could access the beach. If you take a walk along the beach you will probably see the tops of the stairs still visible.
Later we planted marram grass supplied by the council to help regenerate the sand in front of the houses.
I took a look at my old house early this year and it hasn't changed apart from the colour since the early eighties when we sold it.
I have very fond memories of Callala Beach as it was our first house and where we lived when our three daughters were born.
After the damage that was done in the early seventies, I was always nervous that it could happen again. Given that the village is built entirely on sand, that is a real possibility.
