Thanks for correcting me. Makes my contention an even stronger one. Why not increase the medicare levy slightly and this will have the effect of raising more than just $750 million over 4 years. This would just make more sense. The government would be waisting its political capital very quickly if they tried to introduce a co-contribution fee all just to raise such a insignificant amount (roughly $175 million or so a year). Remember when the Hawke govt tried to do it and got rid of the contribution fee only a few months later..so unpopular the fee was.
