Absolutely not taking anything away from the Jane McGrath memorial fund-raising - which is sensationally successful - and the relevant cricket match publicity - breast cancer being an awful scourge, and of course hugely deserving of support, it is a fact that actually the biggest killer of women in the Western world is NOT breast cancer, but heart attack!

Women's heart health is a very neglected field. Men's heart health and women's heart health are two entirely different matters. Many surgical procedures are much more difficult on women because of the smaller size of their hearts, and tinier related blood vessels, and various size related diffculties. One size both sexes treatment does NOT fit all! SO many procedures which succeed so well on male patients do not necessarily succeed so well on afflicted women. Yet both sexes heart problems are treated as the one problem regardless of sex - which just should not be the case - these attitudes can result in many unecessary fatal heart attacks in females, who, with proper check-ups, could have been spared.

Whilst women need to get mammograms etc. regularly, I wonder how many are having their hearts and blood pressure, etc. checked, and if any problem, properly monitored by a cardiologist? The stats are quite frightening.

Suggest men urge their womenfolk to go along and have the suitable check up of heart rate, blood pressure, etc. on a regular basis. SO many female heart problems are worsening without any real symptoms, and remain undiagnosed until it's too late.
