Any form of travel can broaden the mind. My first trip to England was for part work and play and I did a number of tours. It was an eye opener and it made me realise how much history was in Britain. I loved frequenting the English pubs and will never forget the bus ride to Stratford upon avon.
The same when i went to Croatia where i went to the tourist spots, but got a great appreciation for the country and its history. I learnt all about the war and visited museums about it. Again, it really broadened my mind.
Any form of travel can broaden the mind and give you an appreciation of a country or culture.
I've also immersed myself in a culture and lived in Asia for a long time and that was the greatest learning experience I have ever had.
You don't have to go to Monaco and stay in a palace to appreciate the place and broaden the mind.
The main thing is to be aware that the people in tourist spots don't necessarily represent the nation.
