As someone not particularly seasoned at trading, my main word of advice is keep your workspace and watchlist tidy.
My two cents, for DTs and O/Ns, is that it seems to be paying off for me in the current climate to haunt the top movers lists (% up 5-days, volume, abnormal volume), make a reasonable watchlist from uptrending stocks with profitable ATRs (confirmed with MAs, stochs, etc), 'restrict' the watchlist early in the trading day as per volume, watch for intraday pullbacks/oversolds at/near support, and don't be afraid to make money.
Short-term is different ;) - I'm more focusing on DTs at the moment as the daily ASX indices charts are putting me off ;)
