You don't need to be restricted to 600 kcal/day to reduce insulin resistance in Type 2 diabetes and improve control of blood sugar levels. What you have to do is:

Get off your bum and walk for 40 minutes a day at 120 paces/minute every day - or else do some equivalent form of aerobic exercise. Gentle resistance exercise is also recommended.

Eat a balanced 1400kcal/day diet, with the main meals at breakfast and lunch,
and with a small evening meal or snack ; this evening meal can be omitted if you are not hungry, and you may well not be, surprise surprise. OK to have a sweet carbohydrate component added to breakfast or lunch if so desired.

Take metformin if tolerated: that eases the whole process by suppressing the release of glucose from the liver overnight.

Problem is, lots of people with diabetes won't follow these simple guidelines. They come up with every excuse in the book as to why it's all too hard. While others are too far gone in a physical sense to do enough exercise anyway.

Not rocket science. Btw: metformin is dirt cheap and has been around for over 60 years. What you describe as the "diabetes industry" has only arisen because of the widespread sloth afflicting our community. Sixty years ago obesity was almost non-existent in Australia. Look at us now.

Btw: have you noticed that BLT is up nearly 6% today?
