The thoughts of being a degenerate gambler are buried deep, because these wagers are legitimised by the white collar environment, and the size of the “investment” means he’s not a gambler. The average Joe wouldn’t drop five figures on a longshot at the racetrack, yet he’ll repeatedly ramp up towards high five figure holdings in companies pushed by spruikers and turnaround men, who draw outrageous salaries from these companies they’ll inevitably run into the ground. The game is regular build ups to Hail-Mary offshore wells, long shot regulatory approvals, madcap clinical trials and the results of drilling programs in garbage dumps. Glue Boy in the 5th sounds as legitimate as five figures riding on any of these coinflips.
