Vic all well said. I suspect that there are no good choices to be made at the moment. I think if there were they would have been explored or taken up. I think that what the plan is is to hunker down spend little and keep an eye open. It might not work and you would have to be an optimist to say it is better than 50/50.
While what you say is in some respects desirable it is a bit similar to blaming doctors for not being able to cure cancer.
So like you I hope that something can be salvaged but it will take luck as well as perseverance and sober management
