The possibility is there but the probability is very low for now.
To remove the statutory formula concession will guarantee that they will not be re-elected. Without a significant majority, no sane leader will put forward a big "bad news" policy. Think John Hewson, John Howard and the GST.
Voters will always put the interest of their own wallet before that of a country's budget.
And i really doubt that any party will gain any significant majority in the coming years.
