The 10th China Nuclear Energy Conference 2014 is about to happen at the end of May

The following has been clipped from the above site:

1. Mainland China has 17 nuclear power reactors in operation, 30 under construction, and more about to start construction.

2. Additional reactors are planned, including some of the world's most advanced, to give a four-fold increase in nuclear capacity to at least 58 GWe by 2020, then possibly 200 GWe by 2030, and 400 GWe by 2050.

3.China has become largely self-sufficient in reactor design and construction, as well as other aspects of the fuel cycle, but is making full use of western technology while adapting and improving it.

4. China’s policy is for closed fuel cycle.

I find the 3rd paragraph of most interest. Have they been able to use our technology and improve on it? Perhaps making it safer?

Hopefully we will be able to see some reports from their conference.
