Nah a cold is bacterial...a flu is virus...so 100% wrong here...what this all about is actual individual prophylactic advantage...lay people usually only understand this when it is applied to a sexually transmitted disease...if this child received appropriate prophylactic treatment for possible secondary bacterial infection....( a common after flu scenario) she would most likely be breathing today.
